Although Tadej Pogacar starts as the clear favourite for Il Lombardia victory this Saturday afternoon, the Slovenian and UAE Team Emirates aren't the only team with goals. Sadly for Bahrain - Victorious however, preparation for 2024's final monument has been far from ideal.
“Although it’s the last Monument of the season, our approach will be as focused and committed as if it were the first. It’s crucial that we maintain 100% concentration and effort right until the end of the season," previews the team's sports director, Roman Kreuziger to Bahrain - Victorious' official website. "As I’ve emphasized throughout this week, a happy and motivated rider can make all the difference.”
Sadly for Bahrain - Victorious however, despite being able to boast notable names such as Antonio Tiberi, Matej Mohoric, Damiano Caruso, Santiago Buitrago and Wout Poels among others, preparation hasn't been ideal in the team. “Unfortunately, a few of our riders, including key members like Antonio Tiberi and Damiano Caruso, have been affected by a stomach bug in recent days. It’s not the ideal preparation for such a demanding race, and this will impact our strategy. However, we are prepared to adapt based on how the race unfolds and how the riders feel," the DS explains.
“The rest of the squad is in good form and ready to fight. Santiago Buitrago’s climbing prowess, Wout Poels’ experience, Matej Mohorič’s tactical intelligence, Edoardo Zambanini’s sprinting speed, and Andrea Pasqualon’s crucial support role will all be key to achieving a strong result,” concludes Kreuziger, remaining optimistic despite the illness concerns in the camp.

- I get the point totally. We live in the snowflake society where some riders forget they are getting paid to ride and get results. When they have a few issues they try to look outside of the real issue instead of themselves. It odd so many of the team are making no complaints and getting on with their job. - many people advise him to grow slowly and rather do giro and/or vuelta instead of tdf. but i can totally understand that he is not satisfied with taking over once pogi declines, but instead beat him in his prime. so if he goes for tdf again, i‘m all for it. let‘s hope that pogi recovers soon!Ketterechts07-11-2026
- So gracious to offer something no-one would be prepared to pay for. The Giro is not the Tour and doesn’t command the same interest or attract the same “elite” (those willing to pay to be a part of something they consider has ego boosting potential). Roadside viewing will always largely remain free for everyone outside circuits. Introduction of a symbolic entrance to mountain climbs is worthy of exploration. Asking 1-2€ isn’t going to repulse real fans (most will spend 50-100€ on their outing that day all things included) but will prevent a portion of the total knobhead thrillseekers who will join in any large gathering as long as it’s free, just because they’re attracted to crowds, without which it it difficult for them to work up their anti-social behaviour.Jumpyjohn07-11-2026
