Tom Dumoulin reacts to municipality of Vaals attempt to alter the course of Amstel Gold Race: "We are now at the end of the evening and I still don't understand it"

What a crazy Monday it was at the municipality of Vaals. For a moment, even the future of Dutch biggest road event Amstel Gold Race was in a danger, but luckily the classic seems to be cleared for now. But still there remains a lot of uncertainty. In conversation with NOS Tom Dumoulin looked back on the crazy evening.

"At first I found it very exciting, then it became almost funny and at the end it started to bother me. We are now at the end of the evening and I still don't understand it," Dumoulin summarizes the evening.

According to the former world time trial champion, there is still no clarity. "Not for the Amstel Gold Race, no. It may be that other races also want to start with five thousand or more people." That honor now belongs to the Amstel Gold Race, but the council's decision also stated that only one race with five thousand or more participants may be organized in the municipality of Vaals.

"We watched a farce, at one point I really didn't understand it anymore. I don't think they understood it anymore themselves. There was a lot of miscommunication. What has been decided is not yet satisfactory for the Amstel Gold Race," says Dumoulin.
