Joey Rosskopf is in his final weeks as a professional cyclist. The 35-year-old rider, who currently rides for Q36.5, will end his career after this season. The American rider announced this via social media.
Rosskopf spent twelve years racing among the pros. Despite spending most of the time riding in support of his teammates, he managed to find his own opportunities from time to time, such as at the 2018 Vuelta a Espana. Being the excellent timetrialist Rosskopf undeniably was, he came close to winning the second time trial that year, losing only to his then BMC teammate Rohan Dennis on a 32km course.
With five professional victories to his name, Rosskopf will mainly look back at his three triumphs at the American Championships - twice in time trial (2017 and 2018) and once in the road race in 2021. Another big victory in the American's palmares is stage and GC at the 2016 Tour du Limousin (2.1).
Rosskopf does not want to talk about a 'retirement' after his farewell to the professional peloton. "Because I need a job! I am still inspired by what the bike does to people's lives and would like to remain active in any sector of the industry. (...) I am open to suggestions! As everyone knows, I am hungry to take steps and keep learning."
