Alexey Lutsenko lost control of his bike in the final parts of the stage 12 when he missed a small curb in the middle of the road. The consequences are several wounded riders, but more importantly a podium favourite losing time in the crash.
Primoz Roglic, who was involved in the crash, jumped back on his bike fairly quickly, however despite a full team support, he wasn't able to push high enough pace to keep up with the peloton approaching the sprint and eventually counted a loss of 2:27,
dropping all the way to sixth place overall.
A striking detail is that analyst
Thijs Zonneveld already warned this morning about a similar pavement. After the reconnaissance of the stage,
Zonneveld wrote on his X account ahead of the stage: "These kinds of passages are, as far as I'm concerned, a middle finger to the riders. On a descent through a village, not visible if you're not riding in front. If you hit this at eighty per hour, you'll be launched. A lick of paint and done."
After Roglic's fall, he of course immediately reacted. "Huge crash. And not coincidentally at a low curb in the middle of the road."
The road is there. It cannot be changed. It was Lutsenko's fault that he looked behind assumed the divider ended and crashed on the divider when no one else did. Most crashes are rider's fault
