"The timing for the sprint was perfect" - Jordi Meeus enthusiastic about his first win of 2024 at Tour of Norway

Jordi Meeus had to wait until Tour of Norway to open his winning account with a stage victory in the sprint of Saturday's stage 3 with finish in Egersund, where he proved to be faster than Pavel Bittner, Alexander Kristoff and Wout Van Aert.

"Winning is always nice. It was a pretty hectic finale – not just in the peloton, but also due to strong crosswinds from the right. Despite the many position battles, I stayed calm and concentrated. The timing for the sprint was perfect. I’m very happy to celebrate my first victory of the season," Meeus said in a press release.

"We wanted to give Jordi the best possible chance by controlling the breakaway, and he delivered brilliantly. His sprint was outstanding, and we’re very happy to see him back to winning. An ideal outcome for the whole team," added sports director Shane Archbold.

Sunday's final stage of the Norwegian stage race will take place on a city circuit in the beatiful Stavanger. The riders will face the short but steep climb Grisabakken (0.6 km a 7.5%) for a total of six times, however a reduced sprint is a likely scenario. For Meeus the stage might be too hard, but we should not be too fast to write off the Belgian who was 8th at Paris-Roubaix this spring.
