Tadej Pogacar made a strong debut, taking first place in the Jaén Paraiso Interior race. He was a class above the rest, breaking away solo with 30 kilometres left and securing the win.
"It's great to start the season like this," said Pogacar in the post-race interview. He further added, “As a team, we also finish third and fourth', he was talking about Tim Wellens and Marc Hirschi respectively.
Pogacar views the team's success as a delightful bonus. “We were represented in the front with many guys from the team. We knew this would be a tough stretch. Yesterday, after the reconnaissance, we decided that this was going to be the place we were going to try. That worked out well today.”
He was prepared with an alternate strategy in case things didn't go as planned. “If the pursuers had caught me, we'd have two more guys to play off. So the plan went perfectly today, We played the team game great, so I'm super happy,” concluded Pogacar.
