Van Hemelen made a move with 13 kilometers to go and with his aerodynamical stance powered through all the way into the final climb. He looked strong however he had an almost compact peloton chasing behind, and eventually was reeled in at the base of the ascent.
Israel - Premier Tech then moved to the front with Dylan Teuns pushing the pace. Uno-X also took up the front but no-one made a true attack as riders looked to save their legs for the final meters.
