Sanne Cant on her 14th consecutive win in cyclocross national championship - "It always feels good"

Sanne Cant successfully defended her elite women's Belgian cyclocross championship title for the 14th consecutive year on Saturday. She outpaced her competitors in the first lap and maintained it to the finish line.

"It always feels good," she said in the post-race interview. She continues, "It was a very tough course. It was a lot of walking and quite a lot of climbing. That does run in the legs."

The first lap saw her pull away from the competition, with Alicia Frank 30 seconds behind her. "I just did my own thing and was able to ride my own lines. It's unfortunate that Marion had pieces on the first lap, but yes, that's, unfortunately, part of it."

Norbert-Riberrolle made a comeback in the third lap, targeting Cant, but it was to no avail. "I know from experience that you're always going to ride a bit above your rpm when you're in pursuit. And on this course, there is one thing you shouldn't do: ride above your revs. If she did connect, she would have simply been the best on the course. And had she won, it would have been deserved."

She has won fourteen titles, and each one is equally important to her."I don't have a list saying which win is the best. But I saw a message from the team this morning listing all thirteen previous titles. This one fits nicely among them," concluded Cant.
