South Africa, like some other countries in the Southern Hemisphere like Colombia and New Zealand, hosted their national championships this weekend and the road race yesterday finished off with a familiar winner as Reinardt Janse van Rensburg returned to the spotlight to conquer his first win in five years.
After Byron Munton took the national time-trial championships days prior, yesterday it was the former World Tour rider Reinardt Janse van Rensburg who took the road race event and will be representing the colours of South Africa for the second time, after having his last pro win in this race aswell in 2017. Rensburg was left without a team after the disband of Team Qhubeka NextHash but hasn't lost the competitive rhythm and has confirmed that by taking this big win.
Rensburg won the race in a group sprint where he had the company of Willie Smit and Marc Pritzen who closed off the podium, and also Pro Touch's Kent Main.
