Puck Moonen DNFs Chasing Cancellara tour with stomach pain: "I was empty and tired, couldn't really eat anything and I fainted at one point"

Puck Moonen has been suffering from stomach pain every now and then for months. The complaints came to head during a Chasing Cancellara tour last Saturday. Moonen will soon go to a specialist for examination.

"I already felt a bit ill beforehand and have been struggling with stomach aches every now and then for several months," Moonen writes on Instagram about the run-up to the Chasing Cancellara tour. "I had it checked out and it seemed okay. I thought it would be nothing, that it was just stress. The day before the race I got a call from my doctor saying they had found something besides a viral infection. So this week I'm going to see a specialist. There's nothing I can do but wait."

The Gran Fondo that Moonen participated in went from Zurich to Zermatt. The tour was 280 kilometers long and included 6000 meters of elevation gain. Moonen said she had a good start, but after a few hours the pain slowly but surely started to increase. Her cycling companions dragged her through for another two hours, but after about five hours on the bike she gave up. "I was empty and tired, couldn't really eat anything and at one point I fainted in the van to Zermatt."

On Friday, Moonen was already feeling a bit better. "Today is the first day that my appetite has returned a bit. I went to the gym, which was nice. And I am still happy with the first part of my Chasing Cancellara, where I was able to maintain a good pace."
