Pictures show the state of Mathieu van der Poel after World Championships crash

The World Championships race this Sunday was dramatic by all accounts. Mathieu van der Poel emerged victorious from the brutal race but that was not without it's obstacles, the Dutchman crashed whilst leading the race and ended the race on a broken shoe, which was now showed to the public.

The Dutchman crashed with 16 kilometers to go but luckily was uninjured and his bike looked intact despite falling on the derailleur side. However his right shoe was not, he pulled out one of the pieces of the shoe whilst crossing the finish line into the final lap, and pictures shown by Wielerflits also show damage to the cleats of the new World Champion - all features that did not prevent him from expanding his gap and winning the race.
