Pascal Ackerman surprised the favourites in the sprint finish on the eleventh stage of the Giro d'Italia. The German from UAE Team Emirates positioned himself perfectly down the stretch and took advantage of Mads Pedersen and Mark Cavendish jumping in too early to pass them into the lead.
However, behind him appearing like a freight train the winner of the second stage, the Italian Jonathan Milan, who almost overtook him over the finish line. Ackerman's last push to the line was key to his win. Very happy, he was speaking with his compatriot Jens Voigt for Eurosport as soon as he got the win:
"The end was very nervous, the boys have done a great job to take me to the top positions, I have seen Cav in front and I have gone for him, it has been very little, but I am very happy that I have achieved it."
