EF Education-EasyPost are currently in a battle to remain at World Tour level, and that may influence the presence of it's riders in the World Championships.
Neilson Powless, a possible leader for the USA team, is in doubt for the trip.
"I'm not sure if I'm going to Worlds - I'm still on the fence. I was selected for the team, and we're still trying to keep things in order for me to go to Worlds straight from Canada. But I would say it's 50-50 if I go or not," Powless said before the start of the Maryland Cycling Classic. Although the American didn't find a suiting route, he rode to third place on the day as EF Education-EasyPost benefited from their depth in the winning attack.
After several promising seasons, in 2021 Powless finally started delivering the results he was set out to, winning the Clasica San Sebastian and finishing fifth at the World Championships. A strong puncheur, the Wollongong route suits him quite well, but the decision is yet to be made from EF Education and the USA national team.
