Honoré given Classics leadership role at EF Education-EasyPost trib.al/648y6aq
After making the move from QuickStep-AlphaVinyl to EF Education-EasyPost ready for the 2023 season, Mikkel Honore is set to be given a leadership role during the Classics for his new team.
After a breakthrough 2021 campaign saw Honore pick up stage wins at Itzulia Basque Country and Settimana Coppi e Bartali, he suffered a relatively disappointing 2022 campaign. Disrupted by injury and illness he spent most of the year in a domestique role.
His new sporting director, Matti Breschel, has now revealed that his fellow Dane could be in line for a bigger, more important role at EF. "He's a rider we listen to. He is also a rider that we have had to fight to get to the team. It takes a lot to buy a rider. So, it's clear that his words, thoughts and ambitions carry a lot of weight. To not take them seriously would be a mistake. I have been a bit surprised that in many races he was a helper rider when in reality, he could perhaps win by himself."
Honore's signing adds to the growing Danish contingent at EF Education-EasyPost, "I think the Danes are generally in high demand," Breschel explained. "The ones we already have, with Magnus and Valgren, have made a big impression."
