Miguel Ángel López crashes out of Tour of the Gila whilst in the race lead

Miguel Ángel López won the first stage of the Tour of the Gila with great authority. However, he suffered a hard crash in the second stage when he was in the leader's jersey and was forced to abandon the race.

The Team Medellin - EMP leader did not see a hole in the road while he was drinking water, which caused his hard crash: "There was a hole and I was drinking water. But because there was a shadow I didn't notice it. I was in the peloton and my bike slipped away from me," the Colombian himself explained.

According to Mundo Ciclístico, Lopez will undergo medical tests and only then will the injuries and recovery time be accessed. The rider had planned to return to racing in Europe after being unable to do so in recent months following his dismissal from Astana. This crash also puts into doubt his presence at the upcoming Tour of Hellas.
