After sustaining a serious injury last year at La Route d'Occitanie, Michael Valgren is aiming to be back fit and riding ready for a return to the peloton in May.
The Danish classics specialist is still recovering from the serious crash that saw him left with a dislocated hip, a broken pelvis and a knee injury. Despite getting back on his bike for the first time in October, the former Amstel Gold Race winner told TV 2 Sport that he still has a long way to go.
Understandably, it's the knee issue that is giving Valgren the most trouble. The 30-year-old is still finding it difficult to ride his bike for more than a few days in a row. Despite this however, Valgren is still hopeful that he'' be recovered in time to ride the Vuelta a Espana for the third time in his career.
Having dropped down to EF Education-EasyPost's continental team, EF Education-Nippo Development, there's said to be no time pressure on Valgren with his team opting to give the Dane the freedom to rehab and recover in his own time, trusting him to get back to his best eventually.
