A trio of former Grand Tour winners have been announced for the start of the
Tour Down Under on January 13th.
Chris Froome,
Geraint Thomas and
Simon Yates will all kick off their 2023 season in the Australian sunshine.
After it was revealed last week that Aussie native Jai Hindley will also be entering the race, the British trio entering now means there will be four Grand Tour winners at the start line. 7-time Grand Tour winner Chris Froome will return Down under for the first time since 2010, hoping to kickstart the Israel - Premier Tech fightback after their relegation.
Froome's former teammate Geraint Thomas will lead a young INEOS Grenadiers team featuring the likes of Luke Plapp and both Ethan and Leo Hayter. Meanwhile, 2018 Vuelta winner Simon Yates will be the spearhead of a largely Australian GreenEDGE Cycling lineup.
Seeing some of the biggest names in the sport riding the race has Stuart O'Grady, the races director, full of pride. “It proves the importance of what the TDU consistently delivers, in the means of great race preparation for the cycling season ahead,” he says. “Riders like this are a huge drawcard for the cycling fans and the next generation watching on, and we should treasure each time we get the opportunity to witness these legends on our shores.”
