The first stage of the Tour de Luxembourg concluded with Valentin Madouas’ victory. The UAE Team Emirates rider Matteo Trentin finished in fourth place, with 8 seconds delays over the stage winner.
“On the penultimate climb we worked well as a team, setting a good temp,” says Trentin. The rider could not keep up with Madouas in the final sprint.“On the last stretch, however, I did not follow the attacks.”
He decided to watch the situation and act according, but it was too late when Madouas made his move with a surprise late attack on the final climb. He remains optimistic for the future stages. “Choosing to wait for a little to see the evolution of the situation, and then just as we were coming back to the group off the front, Madouas made his move, and no one could follow. We miss-timed it a bit, but the legs are there to do something good this week,” concludes Trentin.
