Matteo Spreafico returns to peloton with Mg.K vis Colors for Peace after serving a three-year ban

Mg.K vis Colors for Peace announce the signing of versatile Matteo Spreafico. Racing for teams such as Androni Giocattoli and Vini Zabú in the past, the Italian hopes to restart his career after a three-year doping ban.

Testing positive for ostarine, otherwise known as Enobosarm, during the 2020 Giro d'Italia, the 30-year-old was then wearing the Vini Zabù jersey, with which he had raced those remnants of a season disrupted by Covid.

The prohibited substance for which he had tested positive is listed in class S1.2 (Other Anabolic Agents) of the List issued by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and adopted by the UCI and was in that period at the center of numerous positive cases, in cycling and beyond. A substance that would have been used as a complement to some theoretically legal supplements, without indications regarding doping, often bought online.

The former professional will thus be the one to guide the team's otherwise young core of (often U23) riders. An opportunity to write a new chapter in a career tainted by doping, as in the case of other athletes who later returned to professionalism, was just a mistake along the way.
