Matteo Jorgenson dashed to ninth on the third stage, of the Critérium du Dauphiné, a good enough result to move him into the top of the best young rider’s classification
The American rider is racing the Dauphiné to help keep GC captain Enric Mas out of trouble. “I’m here to help Enric, and I hope to be up there to help him and keep him out of the wind, things are going well. We lost Imanol to a crash [in stage one] and we’ve had to adapt to missing him.” he said.
Jorgenson's rise comes at a favorable moment for the third-year pro, who is competing for a trying spot on Movistar Team's Tour de France lineup. Today's time-trial will put his lead to the test, however his ascent to Sancy was at the highest level and the 22-year old is certainly hopeful of performing in the high mountains over the weekend.
