Lorena Wiebes sprints to victory in European Continental Championship

Lorena Wiebes has won the European Women's Cycling Championship. She was the fastest amongst her rivals to cross the finish line.

The breakaway included Omer Shapira (Israel) and Urska Zigart (Slovenia). The duo worked together to gain a two-minute lead over the peloton. But soon, they were absorbed by the peloton. Several riders attacked in hopes of creating some gap but failed to take any lead.

Lea Lin Teutenberg (Germany), Juliette Labous (France), and Sheyla Gutiérrez (Spain) were able to create a 20-second lead which lasted till the final 6 kilometers. It was time for a sprint.

It was a close call between Wiebes and Elisa Balsamo. Balsamo had to satisfy herself with the silver. Rachele Barbieri took the bronze.
