Just a few weeks after a long-term contract extension for Lotte Kopecky was announced by Team SD Worx - Protime, sprinting sensation Lorena Wiebes has now followed suit, signing through 2028.
"I didn't hesitate for long. I feel completely at home in this team and I also feel that in this environment I can make the necessary steps in the coming years," the 25-year-old explains of the decision in conversation with the Team SD Worx - Protime website. "It is a big compliment for me that the team wants to work with me as far into the future as 2028. I was offered a nice contract, so we quickly reached an agreement."
With six wins already this season including stages in the UAE Tour Women, Ronde van Drenthe, Gent-Wevelgem and Scheldeprijs, Wiebes has continually proved herself as arguably the fastest sprinter in the women's peloton. "I have been racing for this team since 2023. I notice that I have made the necessary steps in this environment and thanks to the good guidance of the team," she continues. "That I have become a lot stronger has shown last spring with the victory in Gent-Wevelgem as the highlight. The fact that the team has a lot of confidence in me also strengthens me."
As mentioned, Kopecky also recently re-signed, a big factor in Wiebes confirming her commitment too. "I get along well with Lotte. In the races we strengthen each other. How Lotte occasionally pulls the sprint for me is unprecedented. In the classics, I pull up to her. It's a great prospect that we will still be together in a team for the next four years," Wiebes concludes.
