Looking for a historic third Liege-Bastogne-Liege Femmes victory, Team SD Worx-Protime leader Demi Vollering was forced to settle for third spot on the final podium this Sunday afternoon.
"I felt really good today and I was again in a position to win," a visibly emotional Vollering reflected in her post-race interview afterwards. "I just couldn't do it because I left myself a bit too much in the sprint. It was a bit stupid."
Coming into the finale in a lead group of six, Vollering was eventually outsprinted by race winner Grace Brown and runner-up Elisa Longo Borghini. "I felt so good in the sprint. I should have gone much earlier," the Dutchwoman continues. "I had good legs but I didn't use them in the final and that's a bit stupid."
She's more of a sprinter, and LBL is not suitable for sprinter, why she is so unhappy of 3rd place finish in a race, that is not suitable for sprinters?
Didn't she was like in 3rd place? Podium finish was not all that bad, considering she is more of a sprinter, the only other Dutchwoman in the top 10, is Vos who finished 7th, in that race.
This is not the first time that we've heard an SD Worx–Protime rider saying that. There seems to be a pattern forming here.
I don’t know about the others but it’s possible Demi is not fully in the race what with the extremely complex nature of the upcoming team change. How the heck are they going to keep any transfer secret until August 1st without outright lying in every interview?
Didn't LBL race isn't suitable for sprinters? Demi is more of a sprinter to me, just like Vos
