Giro d'Italia standings after Evenepoel's win on opening time-trial

Stage 1 of the Giro d'Italia with a time trial that was perfectly suited to the characteristics of a Remco Evenepoel who did not fail. From the first day he manages to get a good handful of seconds (43) to the one who is expected to be his great rival, Primoz Roglic.

The closest to the Soudal - Quick-Step rider was Filippo Ganna, who lost the first time trial of his life in the Giro after winning all five he had ridden until today. The best man among the overall contenders was João Almeida, who completed a solid UAE Team Emirates performance backed by Jay Vine and Brandon McNulty.

It is confirmed that the strong man of INEOS Grenadiers, at least at the start, seems to be Tao Geoghegan Hart, who took 15 seconds off Geraint Thomas in the Welshman's speciality. Aleksandr Vlasov slipped into the top 10. Among the contenders for the podium, the worst affected was Hugh Carthy, who was almost 2 minutes behind Remco.

Neither were the Bahrain Victorious men (Damiano Caruso lost 1:28, Jack Haig 1:36 and Santiago Buitrago 2:02). Remco Evenepoel's smashing start was tremendous.
