The hashtag #kbk may continue to exist, but in 2024, 2025 and 2026 the first "k" will stand for Kortrijk. The West Flemish city entered into an agreement with the organizers of Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne to act as the starting point for 3 years. The name of the semi-classic will not change, but there is great dissatisfaction in Kuurne.
"As a municipality, we have done everything we can to hold the start of Kuurne - Brussels - Kuurne here, but we were unable to do so. And that hurts. Yet Kuurne, as a stubborn donkey, continues to commit to turning this spring classic into a popular festival," Kuurne mayor stated on Facebook.
On the other hand, they're over the moon in Kortrijk. The city is portraying itself as a cycling city and wants to do so even more with this new deal. From next year, the peloton will start on the main market of the West Flemish city. An anchor that makes the organizers dream of more.
"The move of the start provides added value in various areas," Kortrijk chairman convinced. "It will be as logistically possible to add a women's race to the program. We will also focus more on extra experience at the starting event."
