Jumbo-Visma "really, really strong" - Tom Pidcock worries about competition this spring

Jumbo-Visma put on a fierce performance at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, one that has struck fear into many opponents. Between them was Tom Pidcock who witnessed first hand the tactics of the Dutch team.

"A tricky day. It already started with a fall in the peloton. That was not ideal and Ben Turner dropped out. When Jumbo-Visma started it afterwards during the echelons formations, I was so incredibly cold. I couldn't even pedal normally," Pidcock told Sporza. The Dutch team had already initially attacked in the crosswinds, but then as the race went by the attacks were constant.

“They were really, really strong. Not a word needs to be added to that. When Dylan attacks, he is invisible," Pidcock explains. The winning move took place with 40 kilometers to go, and at all times Jumbo had someone cover the attacks. "You let him go knowing how strong he is. His teammates were slowing things down in our group. That made it very difficult to create differences in the final."

"Maybe I could have attacked, but it was certain that a Jumbo-Visma rider could have followed me. What should I have done at such a moment? Today's race was very difficult to finish," the INEOS Grenadiers rider admitted. He nevertheless still sprinted to fifth place at the line but far from victory. He will fancy better chances later in the spring however in harder races.
