Jumbo-Visma praises his riders at Clasica San Sebastian: "They have shown that they are ready for the World Championship"

Nathan Van Hooydonck was the MVP of Jumbo-Visma on Saturday in the Basque one-day race, where Tiesj Benoot was unable to follow up on his podium finish from last year. He eventually finished tenth from the chasing group.

Sports director Arthur van Dongen evaluated on the website of the Dutch formation. "We can certainly be satisfied with this. It was the maximum possible," he stated realistically. "Tiesj said afterwards that he was good, but he should have been super good to join the favorites group. Unfortunately he just couldn't come along when Remco Evenepoel attacked."

"In such a tough WorldTour race, the legs decide, it's that simple," Van Dongen summarized. "Nevertheless, he was still competing for sixth place. The fact that he is in the top ten for the second year in a row shows that this race suits him well."

Van Hooydonck experienced the race from the breakaway, after which he also did work for Benoot. "Nathan rode a very strong race. He sat where he had to sit and joined the leading group to be able to play an important role for Tiesj from there. Until the last ten kilometers he did a lot of work for Tiesj, which he did very well. Both have shown that they are ready for the World Championship."
