Kasia Niewiadoma showed herself to be the best of the rest in the queen stage of the Tour de France Femmes on Saturday. The Polish cyclist finished second on the Col du Tourmalet after a long attack, which also put her in a good position in the standings right behind leader Demi Vollering.
"It was amazing, I'm so happy," an overjoyed Niewiadoma puffed out at Eurosport's Matt Stephens. "Normally I would let go, but I promised myself that I wouldn't stop pushing the pedals until Annemiek van Vleuten did," she explained her tactics. "I didn't expect to get such a gap from the two, but it was great to ride like this! When I ride alone, I often feel a little stronger."
Tommorow's, the ladies will line up to hilly individual time trial in Pau, which will be the grand final of the 2023 Tour de France Femmes. Niewiadoma will try to defend her 38'' advantage over Annemiek Van Vleuten, while Lotte Kopecky and Ashleigh Moolman are also in the contention for final podium.
