Matej Mohoric was one of the riders in evidence at
Strade Bianche. The Slovenian rider from Bahrain-Victorious was very active along the race and found himself in the closest chasing group to Thomas Pidcock, along
Jumbo-Visma riders Tiesj Bennot and
Attila Valter who, according to Mohoric, disrupted the chase to Pidcock.
"Jumbo-Visma lost the race here. They rode for themselves, and they didn't sacrifice Attila to get Pidcock back, because that was really possible. For me, it wouldn't have changed much, because I would have finished fourth because there were three more riders stronger", said Mohoric in the post-race interview.
The 5 chasers group (Attila Valter,
Tiesj Benoot, Valentin Madouas, Matej Mohoric, and Rui Costa) were able to reduce the difference to
Tom Pidcock to 9 seconds. But they never fully cooperated, and due to that Tom Pidcock was able to celebrate alone in Siena.
"This was the maximum I could do with these legs because I was empty in the final. I didn't have the legs to do more. Pidcock was very strong, and fortunately for him, it didn't turn around so well with us.", he concluded. The Slovenian rode to sixth on the day, with teammate Pello Bilbao resisting into 7th place right behind.
