Ivan Garcia Cortina on his Gran Piemonte victory - "I am very happy, I kept fighting, and now here is the victory"

Ivan Garcia Cortina got his first victory of the season in the Gran Piemonte on Thursday. Cortina beat Matej Mohoric in a chaotic sprint and narrowly secured the victory.

"Here, I am very happy," said Cortina. He continues, "It wasn't always a good period.I kept fighting, and now here is the victory. The problems for the points are over, but it's always nice to win."

He was confident with his form after an impressive performance in Coppa Bernocchi. "Actually, yes, after the last race, I felt very good. There I was in a bad position, but I had the legs. Today I knew that the climb at sixty kilometres before the end could be a key moment, that it could break there. That happened. After that, it was just full throttle. In the sprint, I was able to finish it,” explained the Movistar rider.

He describes the final moment of the sprint. "I was a little far into the last corner, but the group wasn't that big. I was able to get past it and take the win. No tactics, but it couldn't have been better,” concluded Cortina.
