For the second time in a row, Mads Pedersen narrowly lost the stage to Sam Bennett in the final sprint. He finished second in the third stage of Vuelta a Espana.
Pedersen understandably is quite frustrated with his mistake. "The team did a great job today. Unfortunately, I chose the wrong side at the end," says Pedersen. He continues, "The whole team gave their all for me today. It was difficult to control the breakaway, but fortunately, we stayed in front all day. It is good for the climbers in our team to experience that it is better to ride at the front of the peloton."
Daan Hoole was responsible for positioning him for the final sprint. While Pedersen lost the sprint, he did not forget to appreciate his teammate's effort. ."Daan is always on the appointment in the final and put Alex Kirsch and me perfectly in the wheel of Sam Bennett. When Sam attacked, I thought I was perfectly positioned. The headwind was hard, so I chose the right side of the road. With hindsight, it was probably not the right choice," Pedersen said.
Nevertheless, he remains optimistic for future stages, “However, it looks good for the rest of the Vuelta, and there are still plenty of chances for a stage win," Pedersen concluded. He currently holds 18th position in GC, 27 seconds behind overall leader Edoardo Affini.
