Whilst much of the talk surrounding Soudal - Quick-Step and Grand Tours in 2024 surrounds the current time-trial world champion, Remco Evenepoel, Ilan Van Wilder is keen for a big role himself.
“A nice combination of personal opportunities and help,” the talented, 23-year-old Belgian says himself of what he expects in the upcoming season when questioned about his goals for the 2024 campaign in an interview with Sporza.
Van Wilder kicks off his season in Spain at the Challenge Mallorca. “After that I will have a great opportunity for a ranking in the UAE Tour,” he elaborates. “Then follows Paris-Nice with Remco Evenepoel. We are starting with a good team. It is a main goal to do very well there.”
“At Soudal Quick-Step I get a nice combination of my own opportunities and help. I find a good balance there. It is built up every year and I try to take a step every year. That works well," Van Wilder continues, but he remains coy about potential Tour de France selection. “That has not yet been determined. I am in the large preselection. Let's hope so. There are a lot of strong guys. I really see a strong team for the Grand Tours.”
