The goal for today was a top-10 which we achieved. But honestly I had the feeling that a bit more could have been possible. So I’m leaving this race with mixed emotions today.“
It has been a strong Spring Classics campaign for Jordi Meeus, as he got himself onto the podium at Gent-Wevelgem, beating Jasper Philipsen in the sprint for third place behind Mads Pedersen and Mathieu van der Poel.
At Paris-Roubaix on Sunday, the BORA-hansgrohe rider impressed once again, as he finished in the top-10 with eighth place in the Hell of the North after Tim van Dijke was relegated due to an ‘irregular sprint’ in the Roubaix Velodrome.
Speaking to his team after the race Meeus reflected on his race, as he said “it was a super hard and fast race. I had really good legs today but unfortunately messed up the positioning in Mons-en-Pévèle a bit. I tried to chase back, we came quite close but in the end we weren’t able to close the gap”.
The Belgian actually seemed to be somewhat deflated despite his strong showing, as he went on to say “the goal for today was a top-10 which we achieved. But honestly I had the feeling that a bit more could have been possible. So I’m leaving this race with mixed emotions today”.
