Enric Mas finished the twentieth stage in fifth place. Having only one more stage left to race, he has accepted defeat from
Remco Evenepoel and is content with second place overall.
"We made a beautiful Vuelta,” Mas said with a smile on his face. He continues, "It was particularly tough, it was a long day. We have to be happy. We tried, but we couldn't gain much time in the mountain stages. We still have to train for the time trial. In the mountain stages, I didn't lose much time." Mas told Eurosport.
The second position in the tour is not a new achievement for him. Both in the 2018 edition and last year, he finished second in GC. He is not disappointed with being second for the third time on opposite he feels quite happy. "I am very happy with the team. We made it a beautiful Vuelta. It's now the third time I've been second in the Vuelta, but this is a special one for me because I've had a difficult period. I want to thank everyone who believed in me, especially the team,” concluded Mas.
