27 years old Uno-X rider, Jonas Abrahamsen, was taking part in a collective training session in Altea, Spain with his Uno-X teammates where the pre-season meeting of the Scandinavian Professional team is being held.
Until he suffered a crash that led him to a concussion and a severe contusion to the back of one thigh. But according to the first-hand reports, things could have ended much badder, to the Norwegian rider.
Abrahamsen was riding around 70 km/h according to TV2 sports at the time of the accident, when the chain of his bicycle suddenly jumped. That made his fall off the bike inevitable and things didn't look good, according to his teammates, 'We were sprinting, and I heard a crash behind me. Jonas had been thrown into the air and was unconscious when we reached him. We immediately saw that his heart was beating, but that he was not breathing properly: his tongue had slipped into the back of his throat and his jaw was locked. Tord Gudmestad and I managed to clear his airway, but it was no small physical effort”, said his teammate U23 ITT World Champion Søren Wærenskjold, who in conjunct with Tord Gudmestad were the first to help him and potentially save his life.
Shortly after that team sports director and ex-rider Kurt Asle Arvesen and doctor Rory Nolan appeared to the scene, but thankfully the most dangerous part seemed to have already passed, “Luckily the doctor was with us. However, when he arrived, the other guys had already done a good job” said team sports director Arvesen.
He then was sent to the hospital and according to Dr Rory Nolan, “Jonas is fine, from the X-rays and examinations everything seems fine. Now, however, it will be important to get the guys together and talk about what happened. This was definitely a traumatic experience for everyone”.
Jonas Abrahamsen regained his conscience and after being taken to hospital reported, “I am fine, given what happened. I don't remember anything about the accident. The memories stop just before and then come back about an hour later. I'm incredibly grateful to my teammates, I don't know how it would have gone without them”, so everything seems to be fine, although it was a shocking situation, we just hope that Abrahamsen fully recovers from it.
