Filippo Ganna will be wearing the rainbow stripes today at the
Tour de France, however his expectations will be that he ends the day in yellow at the podium. It's a day he and several other time-trialists have been waiting for all-year long, and will make for a thrilling start to the Tour de France.
“That doesn't make it any easier. I definitely want that yellow jersey to hang in my museum. There's something mythical about the jersey and I like the history of the Tour. Friday morning I will get up with a portion of grinta," Ganna told Het Nieuwsblad ahead of his debut in the Tour.
"I know my form is good, I was able to see that during the Italian time trial championship. We can now only cross fingers that I am also good enough to have a party on Friday night," he added. Perhaps the man to beat, however Ganna faces serious competition in the likes of Wout van Aert, Stefan Bissegger, Stefan Küng and many more in a 13-kilometer technical time-trial in Copenhagen. It will be a crucial day in his career, and one that has been several months in the making.
“Everyone wants that jersey. The Tour is one of the most intense, hard and stressful races. Everyone will be hungry, but Wout is definitely one of my most aggressive opponents in a time trial like this," the Italian aknowledges. "He is one of the main candidates for yellow."
