Enric Mas appreciates organizers' decision to neutralize final two kilometers of ninth stage: "I think it's good that the organization is taking measures to take care of us"

Enric Mas concluded the first week of the Vuelta a España as number eight in the overall ranking. After the ninth stage, the leader of Movistar was pleased with the measures taken by the organization. Due to mud on the final climb, the times were recorded two kilometers from the finish.

Although a large part of the climb was in good shape, Mas thought it was a good decision that the organization was on the safe side. "Maybe we are used to not paying attention to the safety of the cyclists, but we are human beings, some parents, and sometimes avoidable things happen. I think it's good that the organization is taking measures to take care of us," Esciclismo quotes Mas after the finish of stage nine.

"The weather is something you have no control over," the Spaniard elaborates on neutralizing the last two kilometers. "On a normal day in this area, the stage would have been a spectacle, but the finish was dangerous with gravel on the road," Mas refers to a descent in the last kilometers.

Mas is 2:38 behind leader Sepp Kuss in the standings. The first real top favorite in the rankings is Evenepoel, who is fourth at 2:24. Mas is therefore only fourteen seconds behind, but will probably lose some necessary time on the Belgian and Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard in the individual time trial scheduled after the first rest day.
