The Colombian rider
Egan Bernal continues his journey in the
Tour de France 2023, a race that has been a real challenge for him. After completing day 13, Bernal is more than 50 minutes behind Jonas Vingegaard in the general classification, but his participation has been fundamental to achieve the first victory of the INEOS team in the race.
Bernal's start in this Tour was promising, but as the days went by, he has found it more difficult to maintain his rhythm. On the ascent of the Grand Colombier, the cyclist from Zipaquirá once again faced complicated moments, but managed to complete the climb successfully - this time around not trying to fight for the overall classification
After finishing the day and witnessing the victory of his Polish teammate Michał Kwiatkowski, Bernal was satisfied with his effort in one of the most difficult stages. He recognized the importance of Kwiatkowski's victory and the teamwork to achieve it.
"The team had been looking for a stage since the first day and today things went against all odds because the stage didn't seem conducive to a breakaway, but Kwiatkowski was very strong and things went well," commented Bernal at the end of the day.
In addition, the cyclist highlighted the toughness of the race and what is to come in the next stages. "All the stages here are hard, you don't know if it's harder the flat terrain or the climbs. There are two stages coming up with a lot of elevation gain and accumulated fatigue from the Tour. The key is to recover and do the basic things in an excellent way: sleep, stay calm and keep calm. We have to stay focused for the last part of the Tour," Bernal emphasized.
Despite the ups and downs he has experienced over the course of the race, Egan Bernal shows a positive attitude and determination to face the remaining challenges. As the Tour de France moves towards its final stage, the Colombian rider will be looking to improve his position in the general classification and take advantage of every opportunity that comes his way.
The road ahead will not be easy, but Bernal's mental toughness and resilience, coupled with the support of his team, could be the key ingredients for a strong performance in the coming stages. Fans will be watching the movements of this talented Colombian cyclist as he continues to make his mark on the 2023 Tour de France.
