Driver of car that injured Alejandro Valverde arrested with confirmation of ill-intent

Yesterday news broke that Alejandro Valverde had been hit by a car whilst training near his home in Murcia. He and two training partners were hit by a driver who fled the scene, however luckily consequences were not too bad.

Valverde shared on social media a message saying "I want to thank you all for the support and affection I have received. Fortunately, I was just very shocked and I'm fine". He has in the meantime already returned home, with confirmation of only minor injuries that didn't require further medical attention.

The driver, 69 years old, has been arrested, having turned himself in to the authorities. According to witnesses the hit-and-run was purposeful, after the riders reacted angrily when he initially drove by the group - having afterwards hit the three riders with the vehicle.
