Demi Vollering will be leading her
team SD Worx in the
Tour de France Femmes. She hopes to wear the yellow jersey in the tour.
"I like long climbs," Vollering told RIDE. She continues, "Although I don't really have a reference yet on how good I am on that terrain. In fact, I've only measured my strength against the competition twice on such climbs. Last year in the Vuelta a Burgos and in the Giro Donne. In Burgos, I did a long turn in service of Anna van der Breggen, while in the Giro, I did a lot of work in the stage that teammate Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio won.”
Annemiek van Vleuten will be her biggest obstacle in the tour, but Vollering is confident in her abilities. “In those two days, I had the feeling I could compete with Annemiek van Vleuten. Normally she would be the one to beat in this field. It's quite exciting for me to find out what my place will be," said Vollering.
La Super Planche des Belles Filles is the final stage in the tour, and the finish is very close to Vollering’s home. "The Tour is a dream for me. It means a lot to me, although I have to be careful not to make it too big. Suppose I can win it, what a great story that would be. Close to home, actually in my backyard, the final takes place. And in an area that I explored two years ago. In 2020, I never thought that on La Planche des Belles Filles the most important yellow jersey would ever be waiting for us," concluded Vollering.
