Carlos Verona is known and valued in the peloton for his climbing abilities that he often selflessly offers to his leaders' use. In an interview with Relevo, the Movistar rider describes his decision to change colours after five years in the Spanish team.
"In Movistar I have enjoyed a lot of trust from the first moment, especially from Eusebio Unzué. Receiving that trust, the doubts that you yourself may harbor disappear," Verona points out his good relationship with the team leader. "Apart from falls and unforeseen events in general, they have been very good years that have allowed me to be the cyclist I am now."
"At the December camp, Movistar made me a renewal offer. When I received it I was happy, but a part of me said… If you've been fighting for this forever, why aren't you so happy? What are you missing? That made me rethink my options," the Spaniard explains.
So with the Ineos deal off the table, could've Verona swallowed his pride and return to Movistar? "I think so. In fact, I was at the Movistar Team hotel this week, returning material and saying goodbye to my former teammates. For my part, if the option was given to return, I would consider doing so because it has been a very nice five years."
