BREAKING: Vuelta a Andalucia cancelled - Riders to race time-trial, stages 4 and 5 cancelled

The Vuelta a Andalucia has been terminated. The riders will race today's last-minute short time-trial, but all other stages have been officially cancelled following the extensive protests of farmers.

Organizers confirmed this morning that stages 4 and 5 have been cancelled. Organizers could not assure the safety of the race, following the situation in the region. The final stages of the race were redesigned in order to try and save the race but this was not possible.

Thus, the cancellation is due to the same reason, the authorities do not guarantee the safety of the test (there are no Civil Guards available) and the race cannot take place safely because the strikes in the primary sector continue:

"After endless efforts, despite having all the permits and complying with the requirements established by the regulations, the government authorities have not been able to ensure the assistance of the public order forces necessary to provide security coverage."

The organization regrets the damage that this represents for the race as well as for Andalusian cycling: "It is not only the significant economic and image damage that is caused to the organization, but also serious damage to the image of Andalusian cycling and Spanish".
