Nairo Quintana had a difficult day yesterday in the Pyrenees, however the moment where he had the most attention was when he did a move that ended up costing him a penalization where he used a motorbike to push himself.
The Arkéa Samsic rider was riding up the Col de Spandelles, looking to return to the GC group where he had been dropped following the attacks of Tadej Pogacar. The incident happened with 37 kilometers to go, as Quintana grabbed a camera motorbike briefly to push himself forward. Albeit small, it was caught on camera and immediately frowned upon.
Quintana was penalized for 10 seconds, a small consequences after what could've been a more serious sanction, aswell as 4 points on both points and KOM classification and a fine of 200CHF.
Quintana ended up in fifth place at the end of the day having suffered with the fatigue, but has commented that "we worked until the end, we have done a great Tour de France" as he's likely to finish on the Top5 of the race - his first since the 2019 Vuelta a España.
