The transfer season has only started yesterday however talks and negotiations have been going on for months. A new rumour has emerged with strong indications, and that is of
David Dekker to move to Arkéa Samsic.
The
Jumbo-Visma rider was one of the best under-23 sprinters of his generation and had a very promising start to his stint in the Dutch team in 2021 with the victory of the points classification at the UAE Tour. It was a brilliant start, however he never again showed the same level, having occasional presences in the sprints but never reaching closer to a win, specially at the same level.
Dekker, now 24 years of age, is ending his contract with Jumbo-Visma at the end of 2022 and as the team is bolstering their squad with several new riders for 2023, Dekker is unlikely to be part of the team's plans. In interest of his services however are several teams. According to Velonews' Daniel Benson, Arkéa Samsic is the most likely destination.
The French team currently has the likes of Hugo Hofstetter, Nacer Bouhanni and Amaury Capiot under contract for 2023, however they appear to be interested in expanding their sprinting contingent further. Much of their expected rise to World Tour level has been founded on the many points the team brought from the classics calendar throughout the years, and Dekker seems to be a part of the French team's plan to stay in the first division for the coming years.
