Richard Carapaz was one of the most, if not the most resounding transfer during this transfer season. The Ecuadorian current Olympic Champion and former winner of Giro d'Italia with podiums in both of the 3 Grand Tours left INEOS-Grenadiers to EF Education-EasyPost. This transfer puts EF Education-EasyPost in a new level of general classification contenders and former team rider Mitchell Docker is sure that Carapaz will do well at the Tour de France.
“If the course suits him [Carapaz], then yeah, why not. I’ve heard from inside the team that Carapaz arrived at the first training camp and was super relaxed. Apparently he was feeling at home already. Especially with Rigo [Rigoberto Uran] there, they’ve got a real South American feel and with Amador arriving as well. So there will be a strong team around him", revealed Docker to CyclingWeekly.
Docker, a now retired pro cyclist who spent the last 4 years of his career on EF Education-EasyPost knows well the type of culture there is on the team. Due to that he is certain Carapaz will adept and do well in this new environment.
“I wouldn’t doubt that the team has an amazing Tour this year purely because of the culture they’ve created. They’ve also got the legs behind that and the engines too which helps,” he stated.
Docker who recently entered the cyclocross world and made a film about his debut in this new discipline of cycling, extended the compliments to the team manager of EF Education-EasyPost Jonathan Vaughters his former boss.
“It’s a real credit to Jonathan Vaughters as this was something he put together. He always sees the right characters that fit and builds the team and everything around that.”
