He already has bronze and silver, gold should be the logical step for Alec Segaert. The 20-year old neo-pro from Lotto-Dstny does not play hide and seek either: he wants to take the world title at the World Championship time trial for promises on Wednesday.
Segaert didn't have a smooth landing in UK as he lost his luggage including the passport. Luckily his team managed the situation quickly. "Fortunately, there is an emergency procedure and I was well assisted by my brother and assistant national coach Serge Pauwels," explains Segaert. "It was relatively stress-free."
And so Segaert can count down to the time trial for the promises on Wednesday afternoon. Last year he took silver in Australia. "Gold would make sense now, but it's not that simple, although I hope so."
"That dream has been alive for a while, especially after I had already won bronze at the World Time Trial Championships in Belgium in 2021. Then you see that it is really possible and that jersey is now the goal. The intention is not to make mistakes myself and then I will see where I end up."
