2024 Criterium du Dauphine stage 3 GC Update: Derek Gee into Maillot Jaune as Primoz Roglic drops off podium

Stage 3 of the Criterium du Dauphine offered another uphill finale in the fight for the general classification. Magnus Cort Nielsen started the day in the yellow jersey, followed by Primoz Roglic and Matteo Jorgenson, but that's not how things ended.

Although the breakaway held the lead for much of the stage, it was caught 2.5 km from the finish, but even that didn't motivate the fight for the overall. It was Derek Gee who ended up taking the victory ahead of the overall favourites. With the victory, the Israel - Premier Tech rider is the new leader of the general classification, replacing Magnus Cort Nielsen. The Uno-X Mobility rider is now in 2nd place, 3 seconds down on Gee. Romain Grégoire, 2nd on the day, closes the provisional Top 3 overall with a difference of 4 seconds to the yellow jersey. Primoz Roglic thus drops two places to 4th, 7 seconds behind the leader.

Elsewhere in the Top 10, Matteo Jorgenson moves from 3rd to 5th overall, 9 seconds behind the leader and only 2 seconds behind Roglic. Lukas Nerurkar of EF Education-EasyPost is the surprise of the classification with his 6th position. Bruno Armirail is 7th, Clément Champoussin takes 8th position, Giulio Ciccone is 9th, and Carlos Rodriguez closes the top-10.
