- Each attack needs to create some separation, even just a bit, so van der Poel has to close it down and spend energy doing so. Last year, with most of Pogačar's attacks, van der Poel simply latched onto his wheel. Pogačar towed van der Poel up the whole way. Mathieu even saw getting a drink as being more important than closing down Pogačar (who did exactly what Lenny Martinez did to Nric Mas on the final stage of the Dauphinè - shameful!) "I'll just finish doing this first..." From the overhead shot Pogačar's attacks bothered Mathieu just as much as Visma's Tour de France attacks did to Pogačar himself.
Also, Pogačar's smile at Seixas on the podium of Strade Bianche was a serious grimace of menace.
- 8pm bedtime 🤔
- I don't think Tadej's dominance kills cycling or makes it boring, but having the two strongest riders in the world on the same team, that doesn't smell good.
- Quite amusing to watch how much negativity is thrown at Horner on this article. I still like his insights. Maybe he's old school, but not everything he says is irrelevant.
- Now that he's probably got the GC leadership for the team, I'm curious to see what he can actually do. For Itzulia Basque Country he's facing Del Toro, Seixas, Roglic, etc. (according to PCS's start list)
- Good idea. But their greatest chance is still Pogi going all out on Cipressa. Del Toro could still try to keep up with Mvdp to counter attack him when Pogi is marked.
- Del Toro wasn't pulling on Cipressa last year. He was way behind in the peloton.
UAE has higher chance of winning if two prong attack is used. Get Del Toro over Pogio with Tadej and play relay attacks and force opponents to cover.
- He simply did it to check how idiotic Horner was and Horner took the bait
- Ah.... so the agent has on the ground news as it happens? Why should an agent get to know about this need-to-know basis news at the time? That smells fishy.
- 1- van der Poel
2- van Aert
3- Pogačar
The race will be even more selective than last year (assuming Pogačar is not better form). Ganna (who isn't in as great form as last year) won't be able to keep up but will win the sprint out of the chase group, which will feature Del Toro in it.
In the meantime, we have Milano-Torino. Pidcock is the strongest rider, but Red Bull have a duo (?) of Pellizzari and Roglič, with good support around them. A certain fella named Uijdtebroeks is making his return but I scrolled past his name.
