This weekend's Belgian National Cyclocross Championships look like being one of the mostly hotly-contested National Championships anywhere this winter. One man who holds hopes of securing the victory, is Crelan-Corendon's Laurens Sweeck.
"I have been doing my best for a while, but bad luck often threw a spanner in the works. It is already getting better, but I am still looking for consistency that isn't there," Sweeck tells Sporza of his form going into the Championships.
For victory Sweeck believes he'll have four main competitors. "I am not going to deny that I am one of the four candidates for victory. This together with Eli Iserbyt, Michael Vanthourenhout and Thibau Nys," he analyses. "I haven't been able to win a cross this season, but the other three have. So they are further ahead. Of course, I would like to ride around with that tricolor jersey again. That would mean a lot."
"My chances of winning? I am one of the four top favourites, let me stop at that," Sweeck chuckles in conclusion.
