Portuguese star Iúri Leitão is European scratch champion

Iúri Leitão is the new European scratch champion! The Portuguese rider has achieved another historic title for Portuguese track cycling, after winning the Omnium world title in the summer of 2023 at the World Championships in Glasgow;

Leitão was not to be trifled with and launched a stellar attack with nine laps to go to seal his victory. A completely overwhelming domination to which no opponent could respond. The Caja Rural - Seguros RGA rider finished in isolation, with Bartosz Rudyk, from Poland, and Tim Wafler, from Austria, completing the podium.

Iúri Leitão had already given good indications by finishing 4th in the Madison, alongside Rui Oliveira. It's the second European title for Iúri Leitão in Scratch, having achieved glory in 2022, and the European under-23 title in the same specialty in 2020. The European Track Cycling Championships take place in Apeldoorn, in the Netherlands, between January 10 and 14.
